i was trying to achieve picture in picture at a skewed angle in the movie im currently working on, so i thought i had to use after effects to achieve setting key frames and motion in 3d space, but i just recently found the “basic 3d” function in fcp. How well does this tool work? Can I push my footage behind and in front of my clips? or would it be easier to use after effects?

(I would just use opacity, but ide rather leave both clips at 100% opacity, and push the one through the other like water through mesh.)

i know how to manipulate x y and z axises fine, i just need to parent a photoshoped picture frame around the video clips in 3d space. How hard would it be to parent/child these two pieces together? would it be less of a headache in after effects?

The only reason i want to try it in FCP is i dont have after effects.

And my only friend that does uses a pc. So we lose quality switching and compressing between machines and software.

If you have FCS 2 then Motion 3 can do the 3D compositing that you want as well.
