How can I use the 3D alpha source and have several clips moving in space and not have one clip slice into and intersect one and other?
I’m trying to achieve an effect where it looks like several DVD’s appear on the screen, turn and then get smaller.

You can see here the smaller one disappears behind the larger one.

There’s probably a few ways to do this in Vegas, as long as your source media has an alpha channel. Right click on the event and look at the event properties. Toward the bottom you can set the source to “premultiplied” – if it has an alpha channel.

Either push one layer back in Z space or pull one layer forward but they need to be far enough away from each other that when they spin the don’t intersect. Use the Top view in the 3D Track Motion window to push the track back in space.

It is unfortunate that Vegas has no facility to see the position of more than one track at a time so you have to do a lot of switching back and forth between tracks.

One thing to keep in mind is that video is only 2D so if instead of pushing the tracks back alone the Z axis you turn them and resize them to actually be smaller, it will look like they are moving back in space because our eyes can’t tell the difference.
