Hi guys, Happy New Years. I use Vegas 8 Pro and this may not be related to this forum but maybe someone has some suggestions. What I am looking to do is, make a slideshow in 3D. I know that it can be done in AE, but not too knowledgeable with AE, and know that it can be done in Vegas to a certain extent. What I want to do is things like the carrousel effect where the pictures are in a circle, rotate each one to the front, bring the picture forward, then back into the circle, and rotate to next pic, so on and so on. Where you are able to change the tilt of the plane etc. I want to be able to create the floating or flying pic effect also, and reflection effect. These are some of the things that I want to be able to create. I don’t want to spend a small fortune for software, or have to have someone do it for me. My son in-lsw is a Mac-nut and he was showing me a program on his Mac called Keylight (same as PowerPoint) that does all this. I checked my PowerPoint 2007, and don’t see where it can do this. Hope someone can steer me the right direction or have some ideas.
    Thanks
    Steve

You want to use 3D Track Motion to do this. Read my tutorial on 3D Track Motion: Changing the Pivot Point and 3D Parent Motion: Moving Planes to give you the basic skills you will need to do this.

The reason people use After Effects for this type of motion is because AE will allow you to see and manipulate all of the tracks in relation to each other at the same. In Vegas you can only work on one track at a time and so it is very tedious to align the tracks but it is possible with enough patience.

That’s the problem. I don’t have the patience to sit there for hours and try to figure it out (sounds bad but attention span in the 50’s seems alot shorter than used to be). And I like all the differnt planes moving at different times. Is there a program that will do all that for you?

PlaneSpace (Red Giant) can do this tremendous job for you. But PlaneSpace is a plugin for AE. And unlike other AE plugins, PlaneSpace will not plug into Vegas via the Boris plugin. So if you want to use PlaneSpace, you will have to use AE…

check (google) for “Memories on TV” …. consumer type program but with many automated functions, some very interesting (like the 3D carrousel you want…) … you can export an AVI from there and add final touches in Vegas to that AVI if you want….

good luck, best wishes for 2009
