3d Rotate Text on a Circle with Fades
Hey folks. So I’ve applied the 3d Rotate Around Circle preset to my text layer consisting of a sentence, and I’d like the text to fade in as it flies in clockwise from 3 o’clock on the circle, and fade out as it passes 9 o’clock.
This screen grab makes it look like that’s what it’s doing.
But as expected it’s completing the circle.
I’ve been driving myself batty with an added Opacity Animator, fiddling with any number of permutations of its Range Selector’s Start, End, and Offset, but nothing will wash.
I hope I’ve explained my goal with some semblance of clarity, and would greatly appreciate some kindly assistance from my benevolent bovine brethren.

Make life simple on yourself. If you aren’t as comfortable/familiar with the Animators then remember there is no requirement that you have to use them for everything…just use the opacity of the layer. Eyeball it and assign Layer Opacity keyframes to taste.

If I am misunderstanding you and my first suggestion won’t work…Explore using Range Selectors with Enable Per Character Toggled On.
You could also subcomp it and set up masks with feathered edges.

I assume the circle is a path in 3d space right?
Why not make an arc instead of a circle?
Or make a spline that is straight, arc, straight. Then mask off the straight parts and the edges of the arch so as the text flows into the arch it becomes visible, then invisible as it flows off the edge.
It looks like this from top view, except round:

Thanks, Cory. I may end up doing something like that. I guess first, though, I’d like to know if it’s even possible using one or more Range Selector functions, or an additional expression.

I guess, though, I’m kind of hung up on the idea of the head of the sentence fading in, then out, as it curves out from and into z, respectively. That would be so pretty…

Alas, I’m still slumming it in CS4, so I’m not sure. If you still have CS4 and could throw it together in that, I’d love to have a look. If not, maybe you could describe your process? Thanks.

OK. Took me a couple of minutes to remember what I did.
2 Opacity animators, first is set to Ramp Up and Offset is animated.
Second is set to Square and End is animated.
Here’s a CS4 version.
Gotta get CS5 Joey 😉
