  • 3D Ring of Text: Auto Orient to Camera?

Posted by Jeffrey Fitzgerald on January 11, 2008 at 8:10 pm

Howdy Gang, I built an oval mask and would like to have text circle it. But also lie it flat in 3D so that the text “stands up” and circles more near and far to the camera.

I thought the auto orient to camera would work (to bring the letters up facing the cemera) but it did not. Any tips?

To do what you want I think each letter needs to be an individual 3D layer.

If you enable “Per Character 3D” the add a text Animator to the layer, you can adjust the X rotation in that animator and have your text stand up just like you want.

    Good Luck

I think I understand what you’re trying to do. (Do you want the entire ring to lie flat, or each letter individually?)
To have the entire ring to lie flat, you need to copy your mask to the text layer, open up the options, text options, path options, and set the Path to “Mask 1” or whatever you named the mask. You’ll probably have to turn on the Reverse Path option and adjust the start and end point of the mask.
Now, just hit the 3D switch in the timeline to make the text layer a 3D layer, and adjust the X rotation.
    Hope this helps!
