Activity Forums Adobe After Effects 3D motion path question

  • 3D motion path question

    Hi

I searched the forums and looked for a tutorial but I cant work out how to make a motion path like the one in the video attached. I need to create something similar to this but I d also like to learn how to create such nice motion paths with acceleration / deceleration too.

I can get the videos to rotate nicely but I
cant get this spiral look at all.

I made the spiral path in Ilustrator but I can get the path to rotate in 3D.

The video example is the closest I want to achieve. Basicaly like a cork screw going down and far from the camera.

    Motiin path how to

    Many thanks in advance

I wouldn’t use a motion path at all. I’d add a 3D null to the scene, arrange the photos around the null, then animate the null’s rotation and position. Now the photo’s transform properties become relative to the null, not absolute in the world, and you are able to easily layer animations to build complexity.

You can also do this with a light and use the light as an emitter with Particular to get some pretty complicated spirals very quickly without fussing with 3D motion paths.

Many thanks Walter. I will try. Unfortunately I dont have particular available for this project (working at client on their computers).

I have tried it with the null and parented the images to it. But I just get a smooth cork screw path going down and at an angle.

You can tighten or loosen the spiral over time by animating the position of the child layers.
