I just bought 3D layer warps and 3D Grid Warps plug in to create some dept in the US map. Do you have any tutorial or sample movie that 3d warps effects applied on map? I am very confused about using warp1,2,3 function…

    Thank you for your time.

    Hi sharonism,

I think of 3D Layer Warp as being able to bend and twist a flexible sheet of paper. The ability to combine three distinct warps on the same “paper” gives you lots of options.

Having said that, it sounds like you have an image of a US map and want to give it thickness or depth. If this is the case, I believe you may want to use Invigorator or ProAnimator. Both can give thickness to an Illustrator-based map. The 3D Warp applications really aren’t designed to do this.

If I misunderstood your post, give us some more details and we’ll try to help out.

    Hi sharonism.

What sort of depth do you want to create? A 3D globe? Or 3D bumpy detail on your map?

If you want to create a globe, 3D Layer Warp has a Warp type called Spherify. Apply this 100% to create a full sphere.

If you want bumpy detail on your layer, 3D Layer Warp has a Displacement Map feature. You can apply a depth map layer to your warped layer.
The white areas of a bump map are the high points. Black pixels are the low points.

There are a variety of locations on the web where you can get good color, bump, specular, etc. maps for earth:
