  • 3D layer rotation: comp local axis vs rotation property

    Hi everyone,
I was messing around with some expressions when I stumbled across what I think is a “limitation” of AE…
Basically, I noticed (nothing new, I guess) that given a 3D layer, the rotation property behaves very differently from AE’s rotation tool, the one that you select by pressing W on the keyboard (same is true for the orientation property).
The issue that I’m having is that, while the rotation property rotates the layer according to a “hierarchical” order, the rotation tool allows for single axis control, even after sequential axis rotation (when set up in “local axis mode”, at least); THIS is what I’m aiming for.
    Now,
My question is: Is there a way to convert 3 rotation values (my guess would be using some sort of trigonometric function) to those exact rotations that I would obtain using AE’s rotation tool?
Thanks so much in advance for your reply! 😀
