    Hi,
I’m working on a scene that hopefully will be a 3D cube. I haven’t done anything with 3D though so I’m trying to start out with 2 elements that rotate 360 degrees but are separated from each other, like the front and back of the cube. I watched a couple of tutorials on youtube and thought I understood what was happening, but something is wrong.

I’ve got both elements placed so that one is behind the other, but when I preview it, the back element is right up against the front one; there is no separation to them. I set the Z parameter in the Position dialog to 400, but it doesn’t move the element back when I’m previewing. It looks like it is set back while in Track Motion though. Can anybody provide a possible solution? This is driving me crazy!!!

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Hi Mike,

I have a tutorial on my web site that does exactly what you are trying to do with two tracks. Here is the tutorial link:

    3D Parent Motion: Moving Planes

You can extrapolate the cube from there. The 3D Track motion parameters for a cube using a 1920×1080 project are:

    Track 1 (Front)
    Position: Z = -960

    Track 2 (Back)
    Position: Z = 960
    Orientation: Y = 180

    Track 3 (Left)
    Position: X = -960
    Orientation: Y = -90

    Track 4 (Right)
    Position: X = 960
    Orientation: Y = 90

    Track 5 (Top)
    Position: Y = 540
    Orientation: X = -90

    Track 5 (Bottom)
    Position: Y = -540
    Orientation: X = 90

Let me know if you have any questions.

    John,
Thanks for that. I actually found that tutorial Friday evening and started a new project to try it. I still couldn’t get it to work, but I was so punch drunk from working on it by that time, I probably didn’t follow the instructions to the letter. I’ll try it again in the morning. I just put it aside for the weekend to clear my head a little bit. Thanks again!

    Mike
