I would take a look at those ones and see how they did it.I did some a while back with PyroCluster…the render time was huge.

you can download a file I made recently using volumetric lights. (I didn’t have pyrocluster at the time). The lights are then expelled from an emitter which means you can randomize size, speed etc.
