    Hi All,

Been racking my brains, a few tutorials and the forums trying to work this out.

Can cinema 4d export 3d channel information for depth that can be utilized by the After Effects 3d Channel plugins – ie Fog3d, depth of field etc? I’ve tried using a compound blur with a depth map render for a depth of field simulation that isn’t quite giving me the results I was after and was hoping there was a a way to do the former.

    I’m running c4d 10 and and AE7

    Cheers

    Ben

Yes, Cinema can export a depth channel. You need to enable the depth pass in the multipass tab of render properties, and then set up the target distance for your camera in the Camera object’s depth tab.

You can also render out RLA or RPF files which give you the option of exporting a Z pass. AE Pro can read those files.

One thing to be aware of there is that Cinema won’t output a Z pass for RLA/RPF over NET. Limitation.
