Posted by Ayoife Oni on October 4, 2014 at 7:29 pm

Hello everyone, my problem is really strange. After applying the 3D Camera Tracker tool to my footage, I seem to have no track points. This is making tracking really difficult, please help cos I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Thanks.

I have attached an image to further explain this issue, with the triangulated points in a red circle.

Did you switch off viewing for Layer Options (CTRL+SHIFT+H)?

And please do not ZIP a still image – just upload a still as it is so that folks don’t have to download stuff unnecessarily.

No I didn’t switch off viewing for Layer Options. I’m sorry it got zipped, this is my 1st time uploading or posting anything on the forum, I was surprised it ended up being zipped instead.

I went ahead to create a Solid & 3D Camera in spite of how shoddy the camera tracking was, & it got worse. I really need help with this cos of the project I’m working on. Thanks.

WHen you type your message, there is a row of icons just at the top of the text entry area. The third from the right edge icon allows you to upload and embed an image from your harddrive.

You get the ZIPped image because you chose the upload file option instead of the upload image option.

Fixed it, thanks. A fix for my problem would be really helpful too.

Are you trying to track the glass? If you are, then you are going to have issues as the the area behind the glass will confuse the tracker – ie glass moves but area behind glass doesn’t.

You will have to try AE’s point tracker or mocha (see this tutorial for a close example).

But then, why aren’t my track points appearing? I see nothing. Nothing at all. What am I doing wrong?

    1) How did you apply/initiate the tracking process?

    2) Did you notice anything different during tracking?

    3) Did you notice anything different AFTER tracking?

    4) Try tracking another footage – is the result the same?

    Cheers

    1. Effect>Perspective>3D Camera Tracker.

    2. No. It analysed in the background (1 of 2), then solved the camera (2 of 2).

    3. No.

    4. The result isn’t the same, got a perfect track on another footage. Is there a work around for this particularly complicated one? Or am I stuck with adjusting frame by frame?

What’s the value of the Average Error?

Not all shots can be successfully tracked with AE’s Camera Tracker. The usual issues are insufficient parallax information and a large object coming into view mid-way through a shot.

You may do better by tracking with mocha or the point-tracker in AE.

    Cheers
