3D Bend!
Posted by Allen Joaquin on December 22, 2011 at 11:50 amHi!, I’ve been trying to bend a shape layer to make it sort of a circle style but being a line… (hope u understand me) in 3D
What i want it’s to make sort of rings Oo <- like that from big to small, but, in 3D and in front view, so basicly, if i try using the Mesh Warp, the puppet tool, or anything like that it would bend it, but it woulnd’t actually bend it in 3D and it won’t make the ring shape.
i’ll try to exlain it better…

Indeed — it’s just not called Forge Freeform anymore. The bundled version is called DE_FreeFormAE.

December 23, 2011 at 2:53 pmIt looks like Mettle ShapeShifter AE [link] is a better choice for you here — you want to both extrude and distort a flat shape, not just bend it.
AE doesn’t do this sort of work out-of-the-box, but Chris Bobotis and his team at Mettle have built some very cool plugins to let you do more 3D work in AE. Search this forum for ShapeShifter and pay extra attention to the posts by Chris Bobotis and Tudor “Ted” Jelescu.
Zaxwerks Invigorator Pro is another option for doing 3D work in AE, but I don’t think it’s as well-suited to your particular need as ShapeShifter.

December 23, 2011 at 5:27 pmFreeForm Pro or ShapeShifter AE can do that for you.
This tutorial can give you a few pointers on how to achieve that look:
