3D Animation to video

What I normally do (my workflow goes from 3DStudio Max 8 to After Effects) is output my 3D element from Max as a Quicktime with alpha channel (Animation setting, millions of colors+) at 60 frames per second with no fields. This lets my element be keyable, and gets rid of the frame stutter problem commonly associated with elements that contain fields.

When I import the file into AE, I just make sure my setting is 30 frames per second, and it treats the 60 frames as fields – looks great, and keys just fine.

Just to be clear, I am a newbie at both video editing and 3D animation. I do have a little experience in 2D animation. I have volunteered to video a local pee-wee football team throughout the upcoming season.

There are about 6-7 kids on the team whose fathers are deployed in Iraq. I thought it would be cool if they could either receive DVD’s of their kids games or watch it on the internet. For the 3D animation, I was thinking of that Monday Night Football graphic of the 2 teams helmets crashing together. I thought that would be pretty cool for the kids.

Anyway, I will be using Cinema 4D for the 3D work. I am having a hard time finding a decent 3D model of a football helmet. I’m running short on time and learning to model one myself would probably take me quite awhile. I’m also obviously low budget here and looking for a 3d model donation! lol…..

For the video, I’m using Cyberlink PowerDirector 7.

I’m afraid I don’t have one, but there are some relative cheapies on Turbosquid:

Obviously the quality varies with the price, but the two buck helmet is pretty good, as long as you keep it moving. Good luck!
