3840 X 720 Projector project
Posted by Ian Smith on February 11, 2009 at 8:51 pmOk, so this is a new one on me. I’m going to be making videos to be displayed on 3 projector screens side by side. They are going to be played through a program called Pro Presenter, that as I understand actually uses one video file, and displays the video across all three screens.
I’m not really sure where to begin. I’m not really even sure how to set up a project like this in Final Cut Pro 6, and/or Motion 3.Any tips and feedback is appreciated!

February 11, 2009 at 9:05 pmMotion has problems with projects over 2K, so you might consider AfterEffects. But you will also have a problem finding a codec that will play smoothly on such a large project. I would suggest splitting into 3 videos and using Qlab with multiple graphics cards, or Dataton Watchout with multiple computers.

February 11, 2009 at 9:20 pmUnfortunately, I don’t have an option with changing out equipment or programs. I’m sure I will have to figure out a way to put video on all three screens simultaneously. What about this…
Do you think the program (Pro Presenter) would play three separate videos each at 1280 x 720 at the same time? I could then make three videos timed out to look as if it is one giant video or animation. I’m going to test on the equipment tomorrow. I was just hoping to find some experienced input before I go and give someone Yes, or No answers.
Thank you!

February 11, 2009 at 9:28 pmsorry don’t know that program. But you might consider a Codec that does not strain the processor too much like photojpeg, or rendering smaller and scaling on output.

February 11, 2009 at 10:00 pmOne would think, however they are just getting the equipment installed… including the projectors. So, this is new to all of us. From what they are telling me, the program will read one video file and shoot it out across all three projectors. I’m just predicting that I’m going to be doing animations across all three. So I’m trying to figure out what route to start looking. Making one video canvas 3840 x 720, or making three videos at 1280 x 720, and doing some sinc work.
I did just create a project in AfterEffects with a canvas size of 3840 x 720. I’m fluid with Motion 3, but I’ll have to brush up on After Effects as it seems to be working the best for me thus far on this application.
Any more tips always appreciated. Thank you!

February 11, 2009 at 10:10 pmI have used Pro Presenter previously, you can find more information at renewedvision.com Depending on the computer configuration (1 or multiple computers) You can use one or multiple video files. We used one video file and it seemed to work extremely well. The real hint we found for smooth playback was using one codec for all of the files. The codec that worked and looked best on our projections was photojpeg. You might find something different, but that is what we found.
