    Hello,
I have to make a DVD from 376 minutes of video.

    Is it possible?
I’m working on MacOs X, what’s the best program to compress?
I have Apple Compressor, is it good?
What settings have I to set?

    Thanks
    Greg

[Gregorio Pellegrino] “Is it possible? “

Sure, but quality will not exist.

Compressor is great but no compression software in the world is going to do what you’re asking and be able to deliver a decent image quality at the original frame size.

[Gregorio Pellegrino] “What settings have I to set?”

If you had no menus (gfx, pics, etc) you might be able to get away with a bit rate of up to 1600 Kbps for video. This will leave a little (very little) room for audio.

If you’re doing this for a client I’d dig a little deeper. You may find that they’re needs and expectations don’t mesh.

    Good luck.

You could use compressor and you’d get watchable quality (depending on your source format) but only if you used a Dual-layer DVD

Yes I know that there will not be quality, but it is the video of a lesson, really static.

The problem is that in Compressor the bit rate is in Mb/s and the minimum possible is 2.0 Mb/s.

    Thanks for your help,

Ah yes, you’ll need to get Episode from Telestream to go to a lower bitrate.

Ok, but I don’t know if every DVD player could read a duble layer cd…

All DVD players support dual layer discs.

Ok, I’ll make a DVD DL. But I have another problem, the smallest bitrate in Apple Compressor is 2,0 Mb/s that compress 175 minutes for layer, so for two layers 350 minutes; but I have 376 minutes, how can I do?

    Thanks for your help

Like I said, you’ll need to use another application to get a lower bitrate, and I recommend Episode

Is there an application cheaper then Episode, or free?

    Thanks,
    Greg
