    hi there,

    I can’t find a filter in compressor that gets rid of my 3:2 patten. how do i field match in compressor or FCP?

    i’m posting to web so the size needs to be under 1gb for a 3 minute video.

    Hi Keith,
    I think that Compressor can not do it.
    To remove the 3:2 pulldown, I think that you need the Nattress Standard Conversion “G Remove Pulldown” plugin.
    FC can remove only Advanced Pulldown.
    But again, I’m posting from PAL-land, so make sure this info is correct.

    Hello again Keith,
    You can do it in CinemaTools too: Reverse Telecine.
    Careful because this is a destructive process.
    I would try with a copy of the movie.

    Gosh, really? I guess I’ll just take it to the PC side and use Virtual Dub and avsp. Final Cut Pro OR compressor are so lame when it comes to Processing and Encoding a delivered file. I feel like they don’t really let you get into the nitty gritty. Thanks for your response to my post though.

    Under the frame controls tab (in the inspector) in Compressor, you have to turn frame controls on, and on the Deinterlace tab, select reverse telecine from the drop down.

    yeah….i tried that, it made it worse. thanks though

    back it up: i shot 24p and i logged my footage at 2997 with log and transfer, can’t find an option of bringing my footage in as 24p…

    Richard brought the solution.
    If I’m not wrong this process shouldn’t take much time.
    There is not a real rendering but just to write the same file getting rid of the redundant fields/frames.
    Here learning NTSC. One never knows.

    I’m no expert on 24p because I always shoot 24pA but it seems that attempting reverse telecine on an edited sequence with mixed cadence would not work. Your best bet for that is simply a high quality motion compensated deinterlace. So forget about the reverse telecine and just turn on frame controls and set deinterlace to Better. Better yet, remove pulldown before you edit via Cinema Tools. Better still, shoot 24pA (or pN if you have it) and remove pulldown during log and transfer. You should find info in the help under HD and Broadcast Formats.

    Tom is absolutely correct. If you’ve already edited something together with multiple 3:2 pulldown-containing clips, the cadence will change and you won’t be able to successfully remove the pulldown on the entire piece as a whole. It’s always much better to remove pulldown from clips before editing, then edit in a 24p sequence.

    Just to clarify, Reverse Telecine in Cinema Tools is NOT a destructive process. It creates a folder for your original captured clipsand moves them there and also creates a separate folder for reversed clips.

    Yowzer! Yes, a 24p project edited with a mixed cadence will indeed not be able to reverse telecine. Here’s an option, though not very pretty. You could select all in your sequence, and use the media manager to copy all media to a new a location. Make sure you select it to delete unused portions, but I would include handles just in case. It will spit all your media out to that new location. Next, create a droplet from compressor to auto a reverse telecine on all your clips. Once that’s done, you’ll have true 23.976 clips. You will now have to manually re-edit them. (And don’t cut them over the original sequence, you’ll have to create a 23.976 sequence)
