hello, ive redered out some dv footage that has had the saturation reduced and has been tinted. i have reduced the output white to 235 to colour correct it. i have redered out in the 32 bits per channel mode.

i have used a few bulge effects that warn me that it does not support over 16 bit. and any advance ccolour depth will be reduced.

the problem is that my footage is noticably more grainy, can anyone tell me why and can anyone tell me what bit i should work in?

    thankyou

Well, why do you blow up your footage from 8 bit to 32 bpc when you are only using 16 bpc effects at best? Your approach is completely illogical. Your graininess are compression artifacts that get stronger because you are most likely not blowing up your footage correctly. Make sure to use the compander when combining different biut depths and effects.

It’s entirely up to you how you render, it’s jsut not clear what you are hoping to achieve. Unless you are combining your DV footage with HDR scanned film stock for instance or 3D graphics rendered at that fidelity, there is absolutely no point in working in 32 bpc, except perhaps when you need the better motion blur blending and slightly different behavior of some blendmodes and effects like Glow. The compander can be found in the utilities sectiion of your effects menu and should be applied before using 8 bpc/ 16 bpc effects to get legal values for those effects in 32 bpc space. It should also be applied after those effects to get similarly proper values in 32 bpc again. There are color space profiles for SMPTE and othe TV specs, but even if you use them, your stuff is never gonna look exactly the same on your computer as it would on a TV.

I don’t do anything that requires compositing or color grading in anything less than 32 bit. imho everything just works better unless you need a specific plugin that only use lower bit depth
