August 15, 2006 at 5:18 pmNot seeing quite how because something happens to cost less it’s crap but whatever you say I guess.

August 15, 2006 at 5:47 pmAgain- disagree that it really makes any difference but if you’d like to shoot your projects in 48fps no one is stopping you.

August 16, 2006 at 2:24 pmi see what dave is saying…
he’s not debating whether it’s crap or not…
what he’s actually trying to say (i think 😉 )is that hollywood set the standard and everyone followed…
and now it’s the norm
if hollywood set the standard at 48….then that would be the standard today,i think the word crap is operative here.
unless of course he actually does think it’s crap…
i relate it to cars…they could make electric cars the standard…but they won’t cause of old school oil mentality,

August 16, 2006 at 2:38 pmRight- but in that analogy I totally see the benefits. Electric cars are safer, less polluting and cheaper to run than gas cars. 48 vs. 24 fps- don’t see any major difference there.

August 16, 2006 at 7:11 pmNo problem- but don’t let the bio fool ya. I’m still trying every angle every day- it’s a pain.

August 17, 2006 at 12:46 pmi find the pain in the ass stuff in no particular order
1) keeping up with technology (new cameras–new editing—new programs)
2) once i catch up i have to re-catch up with technology
3) working the loop
4) $$$$$$$$$$$$$plus i’m east coast…which has it’s benefits because they are starting to shoot alot out here…especially in my state….but i just can’t take the left coast on a daily basis…so it’s a choice i live with trying to battle into the industry

September 19, 2006 at 10:57 pmThis should be the first thing taught in videography 101, especially now that we’ve got people born in the digital age. One of the most baffling concepts for me to understand was why anyone would go to so much trouble (pulldown) to get a “film look.” What makes the film look so special? I’m not saying there’s no aesthetic quality- clearly there is or people wouldn’t go to the trouble, but it really helps to know the historical/cultural context of 24p rather than just taking it for granted. It’s awesome that we’ve got cameras that can do it for less than the cost of a Porshe, but I wonder how much of our love for the “film look” is a result of social conditioning. Basically, we associate video with cheap (and therefore poor) and film with high budget (and therefore quality) so before we even get past the titles we’re biased. Gotta go out and get a 24p cam and add instant quality! But you know what… call me a Pavlov’s dog but I’ll be damned if I don’t eat it up- hook line and sinker. I see 60i and the crap colored glasses snap into place immediately. It’ll be interesting to see what movies look like in 15 years.
