    Can anyone explain to me how, or if, the Decklink System Pref “3:2 pulldown removal VITC Reader A Frame” works?

    I have an online edit this week, they’re cutting 30fps offline, but I need clean 24fps online material. I know if I digitize and entire tape, telling FCP to digitize to 24fps, and have my in point set on an A frame – it works. But I need to take an EDL and grab clips at random off a tape.

    Thanks if anyone can clear this up.

    Hi,

    The feature works by starting a reverse pulldown cadence starting on the A frame. This works together with the actually 3:2 pull down so that the right frames get removed on captured.

    If you do a batch capture, your ‘A’ frame may not be consistent which is why the reverse pulldown gets mangled.

    Right. So we have non-Decklink systems, and if you make a custom FCP capture preset for 30fps to 24fps media, and start digitizing on the A frame, it removes 3:2 properly. So it’s a feature that FCP automatically has without Decklink software.

    And I’ve switch the Decklink Preference to the wrong A frame, and FCP still removes 3:2 if you start digitizing on the A frame.

    So does the Preference actually do anything or interface with FCP in any way? There’s no literature that I can find that explains it. I was hoping it was something I had missed.

    It’d be a MIRACULOUS feature if you could tell FCP that A frame is always on the 00’s for a professionally telecined tape, and you could grab a piece of media at 01:00:00:03 and FCP would intelligently know that your IN point was a jitter frame and deal with it accordingly. Reverse Telecining 200 events is painfully time intensive.
