3-way split screen? (Recording a portrait-mode mobile game)
Hey, everyone.
I’m going to be recording gameplay for a mobile game.
The problem is; it only takes up a third of the width of the screen.
I’m wanting to add the clip on either side of the main clip – and blur them.
If that’s not possible. Just enlarge and blur the same clip to cover the blank background.
Is this possible? I’ve had a play around with the pan gimmick. But, I’ve had no luck. It just seems to zoom in, but doesn’t increase in width.
If anyone could help. I’d massively appreciate it.
Apologies if this is a noob question.
I’m using Sony Vegas 10.

if you really want a 3 way-split I show you how to do a 2-way split in a tutorial on my web site and you can extrapolate from that how to do the 3rd split. Here is the tutorial:

Personally, it’s easier to just place an enlarged blurred version on a track below.

Hi, John. Thanks for the reply.
I’m using Sony Vegas 10.0 Platinum. From what I’ve read. I’m not able to use the mask function.
Is there any other way of enlarging the video, to fill the screen?

Joseph, see if this works for you.
Add a new copy of your video to a track below the existing video. Open the Pan/Crop window, right click in the center of it and choose Match Output Aspect. It should fill your screen. Exit Pan/Crop. Add a Medium Gaussian blur to the lower track. If Medium isn’t enough, increase the blur amount.

Joe, I’m glad my solution worked for you. I often use this technique if I have stills that were shot in portrait mode and I need to see the entire image instead of a cropped one.

No. You are using Movie Studio 10 Platinum. Calling it Sony Vegas 10 will just confuse people into thinking you are using Vegas Pro 10 and give you the wrong answer to your questions. If you are using Movie Studio, you should state that in your post so that we don’t recommend solutions that won’t work.
