When I drop the 3 way color corrector onto a clip I get no discernible difference to the clip showing up but when I use fast color it works as it should. I’m using CS5 with a 5D mov clip. Is there something I’m missing with applying the 3 way effect?

The most likely explanation is that you are making some adjustment that has very little effect on the defined range. In the three way color corrector, the three wheels always apply to their specific ranges (lift, gamma, gain or shadows, mid grays, highlights) but the rest of the controls act on the tonal range you have defined: “Highlights, Midtones, Shadows, or Master” If you pick “Master” the interface looks like the Fast CC with only one color wheel.

BTW, a little known capability in the Adobe color correctors is the ability to define where those tonal ranges are defined…which makes the effect far more versatile.

Thanks Tim. Is there a color effect that allows individual adjustment of the red or blue or green channels and not just as the combined rgb?

    …um, RGB adjustment…

Well…this is not meant to be as flip a response as it will appear to be, but, yes there is…

That would be the “RGB Color Corrector”.

…or do I misunderstand your question?

I’m coming from the Color interface where all the corrections you want to use are on one screen. I thought I might be missing something in 3 way color corrector. I found RGB curves is actually the effect I want to use when adjusting individual channels.
