I have a couple basic Resolve Questions:

    1) Apple color can’t import DPX files unless they start with a letter. My DPX files have 6 digits, for example 084500.dpx Will Resolve be able to read a file name like that? (I have about 1 million frames and I’m new to this and a little nervous about gong renaming wild)

    2) Can Resolve output ProRes files the same way Color can? And if so, does it do a good job of retaining the timecode hour from the meta data?

3)Does anyone know of a walk in store which sells Resolve in Los Angeles?

    4) Does Resolve 8 come with physical book? I know there is a 500 page PDF manual but I’d prefer to work out of a book.

    Thanks much for any help!

    Hi David,

    1. The Resolve does not import. It does read the DPX format as you have described. You can grade and then render the out with same exact meta data as the source files.

    2. I don’t play much with ProRes or the toy “color” But Resolve has the option of passing metadata in most formats.

    4. Never read it… I here there is one on the BM site.

    1. Resolve deals with prefixes and suffixes on your sequences and I believe they can have any number of padded digits… I’ve never run into a syntax issue with DPX sequences, and sometimes I send them out from shake and others with odd filenames.

    2. Resolve for Mac (not Linux) imports and exports ProRes files, and when you render you can use either source timecode or timeline timecode. I haven’t had problems with this since 7.0 or so.

    3. I bought mine from Whipping Post.

    4. Never seen a hard-copy available. You might have to print it…

Be sure to get the latest manual from the BMD support site before you print. We updated it a week or so back.

I believe Melrose Mac sells copies of Resolve, along with the Resolve panels.

Thanks, it turns out Whipping Post is online only. But I spoke with them and they seem like good people.

Knowing of another Mac store in L.A. is good to know. Next time I’m near Melrose I’ll go and check them out.
