My current setup has two 23″ apple displays. I just purchased a 50″ Panasonic Plasma to show dailies to a client. Currently I have a 2600 ATI card and need to upgrade to a 4870 ATI anyhow. Can I run both of these with final cut pro routing the 2600 to the Plasma? I know this is not ideal for Color work but I only only edit currently and just need it for preview. Eventually when I can afford it I will throw down the doh for a Kona Card but until then I was hoping to find out if this setup will function OK in FCP. \

    Much Thanks.

Using two graphics cards is problematic. I would suggest the Blackmagic Intensity Pro if you’re on a budget. The HDMI port on the card will send a broadcast signal to your plasma.

Thank you I’ll look into the intensity. Can you tell me what kind of problems may I encounter using two card setup?

Motion won’t work. Color won’t work. They are both dependent on the Video Card. Certain FCP plugins that rely on the graphics card won’t work.

Using a Graphics card to feed a plasma screen is a horrible solution for proper video monitoring. The card does not display full video quality properly for you to make final editing decisions. Dithering, de-blocking, and other filtering performed by the card means you will see a “cleaned up” image at best and that’s not what you want to see.

I would opt for a Kona LHi personally as a minimum to feed the Panny. We only use Konas in our shop.

I can attest to this fact…Certain FX Plugs are disabled..it is not a viable option at this time.

Thank you all for your replies. It looks like the intensity is the way I’m going to go.
