August 9, 2006 at 1:54 pmOkay.
Dupe the project and save it under a new name.
Delete everything but one side and one octogonal face.
Move them so they’r both flat, in the same plane, rotations at 0, centers aligned in the same place.
Rotate the side 90 degrees.
Scrub the side’s anchor point value in the timeline until the middle of the side meets the edge of the octagonal face.
Slide the side in the Y-direction until its edge meets the edge of the octagonal face.
Duplicate the side.
Rotate the new side 45 degrees around the y-axis.
Repeat dupe-and-rotate 6 times so you have 8 sides.
Dupe the octagonal face and move it into place. If they don’t match, delete the 7 duped faces and adjust the one remaining until it’s right. Then dupe and rotate again.
How’s that?

August 9, 2006 at 3:28 pmJoseph is wearing his Cow Ears again this morning — and we all know that they do indeed make you smarter. ;o)
That is a great idea, Joseph, and the new issue of Creative Cow Magazine will have an article on just this very idea and technique. I am finishing it up now and I apologize for the delay in getting it to the printer. I have had to do negotiations regarding two major additions to the Cow, help build out two new servers to expand our backbone to handle these new additions. I have also hired a guy who will soon be announced to the world and whom many of you already know and will be shocked to find out who is the Cow Mag’s co-publisher and associate editor beginning with the third issue. You will be stoked, I know that Kathlyn and I will be dancing in the aisles when it all goes live. ;o)
Best regards,
Ron Lindeboom

August 9, 2006 at 6:59 pmWhy don’t take a picture of a nut and duplicate it about 20 times (or more)and rotate each one a little bit untill you have a 360 degree rotation?
Depending on the velocity the nut will be rotating, the motion blur will help it to look real. If the rotation is very slow, you’ll have to create more layers.Sometimes it works for me.
