Yeah, I know there are newer drivers, but if you scroll down to see the Adobe certified drivers…they’re at 77.56.

Just today I had to go to the newest drivers with my FX560/FX4500 system…I hope CS3 likes it.

    Keep your fingers crossed…

I tried 58, 59 and 60Hz refresh on the 2nd port, all to no effect on the vertical resolution.

Port 1 is running at an incompatible resolution to the Viz, so swapping the connectors probably would not play nice with the monitors. What I did have in mind was using the nVidia control panel to swap the Viz for the HP as far as functions go and see what happens.. however, we’re in the middle of a rather intense project and so playing with this will have to wait a few days…..

I think if you check with nVidia your GTS card won’t handle the combined resolution of your two monitors. Might need to migrate to a Quadro.

I think it would be silly for the driver to provide scanmodes that the card didn’t support, wouldn’t you agree?
The driver allows me to choose 2560 by 1600 for both monitors (if I have both monitors able to support the rate) and that’s 4 mp per display. There is 640MB of display buffer RAM, so even at 32-bit color, this is a pittance for this card to display.

And I should note that in CloneView mode, I get the full resolution out of BOTH monitors.

It is just Premiere Pro CS3 that seems to be doubling the lines, as if a deinterlace filter were automatically applied. (It took a while to discover the cause of jaggies on rendered video from MainConcept’s CODEC because that deinterlace option is on by default–turning it off rendered full vertical resolution MPEG2 streams). Unfortunately, I can’t find any ‘deinterlace’ second monitor option to turn off.

I just looked at specs for your card, and Redgum is correct. The 8800GTS as you have configured will not support the rates you are attempting. The GTX or Ultra would. It is not an Adobe issue. We have ran Quadro 4500s in much the same config as you and various other refresh rates. Never see half resolution from either port.

A fix might be a Decklink card or box.

    Also great stuff at StopMoPro.

    Gene,
Can you point me to where you read the specs that say that this card cannot output full resolution on both DVI ports? Because I bought it based on the understanding that it could output 2560×1600 out of BOTH ports simultaneously, in case I wanted to drive two monitors. 640MB of frame buffer ought to be enough to drive 53 monitors at that resolution, in theory.
I went with the GTS over a plain-Jane 128MB vanilla card specifically for this reason, so I’d be shocked and dismayed if this were true.

Once Adobe certifies something it seems to stay that way till another upgrade comes out even if its years, like the recommended video cards for Ppro 2, I just set a restore point and try whatever I’m going to use. 🙂

I have looked at all PDFs published on Nvidia site for this card. It probably can pump enough data for two monitors at full resolution. Adaptive resolution driven by a single GPU clocking global RAM is where I think it falls short.I could be wrong here, as I personally have not installed this card in anything.

Bear in mind that when you look at any spec that says (supports
up to) you have to read between the lines. Under what conditions.

I was only trying to help you troubleshoot your original issue and determine whether it is an Adobe issue, or a card issue.

    Gene,

I might be inclined to believe in the limitation you are talking about, if I were asking for 2560 by 1600 out of BOTH ports–but I’m only asking for half resolution out the second port.

One of the reasons why we upgraded from the GeForce 4600 on our old NLE was because the second port only did 1280 by 720 for some reason. That card only had 128MB RAM on board.

I wanted to make sure that limitation would not occur in our new system, so we pretty much overbuilt it, and I had to justify the purchase of a GeForce 8800 over a card costing 1/4 the price.

I still think the problem is somewhere else. If the resolution were lower, the Viz would diplay a different rate, not 1080P 60Hz.

1920×1080 is not half of 2500 by 1600. Hence Adaptive Resolution. The GPU hick-ups in order to sustain data rates for both resolutions at subsample frequencies, compromising effective resolution for one port or the other.

When you read Nvidia specs, they hype the GTX and Ultra cards, and compare specs with select models. And use phrases like (can support up to). The GTS is at the bottom of the 8800 series. Specs are almost always ambiguous.
Believe me I looked close at these cards, including other mfgs of the same family thinking they would be a good solution to the expense of the quadro cards.
I see street prices on the quadro cards climbing, while street prices of the GeForce cards falling.

Maybe it is something else. I don’t know. It would be good to know the answer though, as I am not one to spend money to fix a problem only to find it does’nt fix it. If you find a solution, please let me know. Tks
