  • 2nd layer with titles transition question

Posted by Robert Bracken on August 20, 2011 at 8:22 pm

How do I make the 2nd layer with titles have a transition?

I figured out that I have to make the second layer a “storyline” but I can’t figure out how to put transitions on top of titles without affecting the lower layers.

    thanks!

If I understand you correctly the the title has to be a separate storyline.

If you just want to fade the titles In and out, you can use the clip fade slider. If you want to apply a transition from the effects bin, put the titles in the secondary stirrings and drag the effect from the bin to the edit between them. I’ve found that you can put a bit of gap at the head or tail of the secondary storyline to add a transition to the first clip.

I’m calling it FCX. They took the “pro” out, so I will too.
I’ll reconsider after the first upgrade.

    Robert,

I was as bemused as you seem. Have a look at this thread, it helps: https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/344/3006

You don’t need the gap in front if you control-click tyne transition and uncheck from black which is the default behavior for transitions at the start and end of a storyline.

Even with making the titles a storyline the transition affects the video below. I guess no one is noticing this?

    Robert,

I think the best way you can achieve what you are looking for is to Select the clip (sorry if that’s an old term) then click in the far left corner or press Ctrl+V to open “VIDEO ANIMATION”. Once there, double click on the ‘Compositing Opacity’ section – normally the first one – and then drag the keyframe marker to the right hand side.

My apologies but it’s late and I’m bushed but feel your sense of puzzlement.

Wow, that is a lot of work for something so simple in FCP 7. All I had to do was drag a effect to the edge of a clip.

So now I need to create a custom title. Create a story line. Apply my transition and then change the video animation with keyframes? Wow,

    “it just works” I know… I know…

You don’t need the the video animation is you’re pointing on a transition. Also Custom has tools for doing your own title, which is why it’s called Custom. We’re just giving you reference points to do things, but with know exactly the transition is and what you’re trying to do we can only give you different options.

    All the best,

    Robert,
If it would help, I can post a 4 min video on all of these and how they are effective and useful.

FCP X is more about examining workflows and adapting or changing them. I’m finding, more and more, that FCP X is actually rather good.
