    Hi there,

I’ve a question regarding to the 2K capabilities of the Kona 3.

What we need for the next project is a workstation that can handles 2K DPX Files in the 1:1,85 format.

From the filmscanning process we will get the full 35mm frame in 2048×1556 pixels in bit lin or log.

On the output sided we need the 1:1,85 aspect ratio which means 2048x1107pixel @ 24fps.

    In the specifications I read:
    2048 x 1556psf 23.98
    2048 x 1080p 24

    So my question are:

    1. Is it not possible to playback 2048 x 1556 @ 24fps?

    2. Are there no possibilities for aspect ratios other than 2048 x 1556 and 2048×1080 ?

    Thanks in advance.

    Sven

Aja has a white paper on their website with a good overview

    [Sven] “Is it not possible to playback 2048 x 1556 @ 24fps?”

Yes it can, however most modern post workflow is based on 23.98 so that you have a realtime conversions to video and correct sync for audio.

“Are there no possibilities for aspect ratios other than 2048 x 1556 and 2048×1080 ?”

those are the acquisition frame sizes, there are a couple of great tips for various output formats by using the DS keyer function in the Kona Control panel and by using a Mask file created in photoshop you can output various frames to tape.
