  • 2D Layers Disappearing when I add a 3D Layer…. Confusing, but solved…

    Hi,

First post in a long time – and I wanted to offer this tip, in case anyone else is having a similar problem!

I have a comp, with only 2D Layers in it. Then, I added a layer, and converted it to 3D and BOOM – all my 2D Layers simply disappeared from view! No matter what I tried, I couldn’t get my head round it!

No effects on any layer, nothing confusing about the layer stack – 2D layers were just vanishing when I had a 3D layer. … When I hid the layer, they all came back.

Anyway, I solved it, so wanted to post the solution in case anyone else has a similar problem:

    SOLUTION: —

My 3D View was set to FRONT, not the default ACTIVE CAMERA — The Front view only shows 3D layers when there is a mixture of 2D and 3D… Same for Left, Right, views, etc.

In short, check your viewport is displaying Active Camera!

    Hope this helps someone!!

    Take care,

    Vince.

Wow, thank you! I know it’s now 2014 and you posted this in 2012 haha But this just solved my problem that has had me scratching my head for at least half an hour.
The view was set to “bottom” somehow and once I changed it to “Active Camera”, viola! Problem solved.

    Thanks again 🙂

Thank god you posted the answer to this because if I wasn’t in public I would have literally broke my computer and flipped out!

I was using a 2d picture as a background and i had a lot of masks over it, as well as 3d layers and for no reason the 2d background disappeared. I could solve the issue by making the background also 3d but then it threw all of the positions on my masks off.

Im just happy now that this was a simple fix, AE can be frustrating sometimes. You sir are a genius!
