If you are finding the tutorials here too advanced, I would stronly suggest getting Chris&Trish Meyers first book on After Effects, Creating Motion Graphics.

Probably could be had on Amazon for 15 bucks used.

Adobe Support has some nice basic tuts;

Click on the “Topic” drop down and check the “3D” box, then “Go”, then you’ll get a page of tutorials for AE 2D layers in 3D space, most very basic.

Of the tut’s here at the Cow, I think Anderew’s on Compositing in 3D Space is the most basic:
