i got a fully edited HDV AVID project. It is a 25i Project.
By error the footage was captured, assuming to be interlaced, but the camera acctually recorded progressive.

First i thought, it wouldn’t matter, because all I have to take care of is to export “both fields”, so that no vertical resolution loss occurs.

now i noticed, that all the effects (i didn’t think about it) render interlaced (stabilization i.e.) that is not good at all…

is it possible to somehow change the project to a 25p project? will avid then crop every second line from my footage (deinterlace), or doesn’t it care about the material beeing progressive or interlaced?

or is there a setting to tell avid, to render effects progressive?

to keep all the resolution up is very important for this project, since it is for the big screen and not even 2k.

    thnx in advance

Not sure what version you are in, but MC v3 and later allow you to switch your project format from 25i to 25p with a click. I don’t think it is really necessary to recapture your footage. Also, I’m not sure what happens to effects when you do that.
If you are pre-v3, you should try to create a new 25p project, open the bin with your sequence (from the original 25i project), and you should be able to play and edit that sequence. Again, not sure if you would really need to batch capture to get your effects right, but perhaps you can give it a try.
Be sure to copy your sequence before modifying anything. Just in case you hate the result 😉

    i gave it a try and created a 25p project. (MC v 2.8)
i opened the bin with the sequence and could play it without a problem. (except some standard warnings)

I did some test renderings, and it appears, that avid really exports the full resolution then.

everything works fine except some clips with the fluid motion effect, where i slowed down some shots which actually really where interlaced. (because they where shot with a different camera)

the input/output option in this effect disappeared in 25p mode, and the effect can’t handle this footage at all. I suppose, i have to pre render the effect in the 25i project, before moving to the 25p project. Or is there a better way to solve this problem?

    Thanks for the fast answer

For the interlaced source you want to slow down, I would either prerender in the 25i project, or perhaps even safer, do a videomixdown after you’ve locked the cut.

I did a video mixdown of all the interlaced parts (deinterlaced with fluid motion) and that worked out well, when transfering to a 25p project.

but now i got even more problems, because for some reason, fluid motion doesn’t work at all in the 25p projekt. when rendering the progressive clips (captured within the 25i project) fluid motion somehow fu**s up the clip. in the timeline monitor the picture looks completely distorted, but strangly, when i press play, i can see the perfectly rendered slowmotion clip. as soon as i press stop, it is distorted again.

another thing that really sucks is, that all the other effects still prozess the stock as they did in the 25i project. for example, the stabilizer effect output is still interlaced.

what the hack shall i do? Avid warned me, that i might run into troubles, when i opened the 25i sequence in the new 25p project.
I did! And i wander if there is a solution for it. do i really have to capture all the material again? that would suck big time.

    :(((

note: i edit on MC 2.8 may the problem disappear, when i find an editing room with MC 3.0?
