I’m working in the UK – shooting on Sony’s 750 at 25p, editing in my home studio in Avid Express Pro (latest version) and compositing in AE7. I then on-line, grade and lay back via an Adrenaline in a pro suite. We digitise everything from the master tapes at 1:1 onto a LaCie, keep everything at 1:1 throughout the project and transport that drive between the two suites. If we digitise the original rushes in a 25i project then this works beautifully. If we do it in a 25p project then the Avid Express pro won’t read the media and comes up with “wrong Format” in the monitors, won’t transcode it and only allows me to pull other material into the project at a much lower compression (14:1 or DV420). It’s not a problem – now I’ve figured it out it I do everything at 25i – but I just wonder – why? I thought Avid Express Pro read pretty much everything.

    Thanks

Only certain progressive resolutions are supported in Xpress Pro – 1:1, 2:1, and 3:1 are not supported at all. 14:1, 28:1, 35:1, DV 25 and DV50 can all be played back. DV25, DV50, and 28:1 can be created. Software based Media Composer supports all of them.

Thanks – clears things up in my mind – I’ll stick with 25i…
