25fps MKV converted to ProRes exporting blurry clips with speed adjustment
I’ve generally always been able to find solutions to my problems here on Creative Cow however this problem has forced me to register, hah!
I was given screen record .mkv footage to edit a video. I converted this to an mp4 in Perian, and then to ProRes in compressor. My sequence settings in FCP7 are matched to the clip.

I’ve tried exporting with various iterations of Sequence settings, playing with the Field Dominance tab, and cannot get clean footage to export throughout.

So I fixed the issue. I converted the .mkv footage to 30 fps. Then to mp4, then to ProRes. For some reason this fixed the export issues I was having, despite the footage being recorded as 25 fps. I think there may have been a discrepancy between FCP reading the footage as 25 fps. Not sure.

Thanks Dave. An excellent workflow I never thought of. Client recorded the footage themselves at the odd resolution on a Windows machine so it was all I had to work with. If it were up to me I’d screen recorded in QT and avoided this whole mess in the first place!
