25 FPS Nightmare
My friend and I shot a wedding; me with a Canon XH A1 at what I thought was 24 fps, and my friend with the Canon 7d at 24 fps.
I then edited my project (not quite sure what my Easy Setup was at the moment), and then used Compressor (DVD best quality, MPEG-2).
To my astonishment, DVD Studio Pro wouldn’t take the MPEG-2, claiming it was a PAL assett.
Upon a little research, I’ve found that for some reason my Final Cut sequence is 25 FPS!! (which DVD Studio Pro would interpret as PAL).
What do I do?
I can’t seem to just change the sequence settings, and opening a new sequence and dropping the copied timeline into there always seems to distort things.

Since 25p and 24p are so close in frame rate you can use Compressor to fix things. The audio will vari-speed as well to match.
Output a 25p self-contained QT of your sequence and open in Compressor. You are going to make a 24p version of this movie.
In the video settings tab, select the codec (ProRes I hope) and change the frame rate to custom/23.976.
Select the audio tab and output LInear PCM 48khz 16 bit.
In the Frame Controls tab at the bottom select Rate Conversion/Best.
Click the very bottom button that says, “so source frames play at 23.976”
Output at 100% of source.You’ll now have a 23.976 quicktime will vari-speed audio that you can encode to Mpeg-2/24p for DVD.

The most important thing is:
How is your 7D footage shot?
24 or 25?
Did you match your timeline the first shot you put in the timeline?
First check your source footage.
Select clip in browser.
Command+9 -
Duplicate the movie and comform it to p24 on CinemaTools.
if the audio is OK, done.

Thanks for the in depth reply – in theory this sounds perfect and I’m going to give it a shot.
One question: when I am outputting a “25 p self contained Quick time” does this mean output the sequence as a basic quick time movie fro within Final Cut?
In other words, File>Export>Quick Time Movie.
And then I will be using that file in Compressor, right?
