I’m having a lot of trouble capturing from my xl-2 into FCP 4.5. I shot with 24pa 16×9. I set the capture preset to 23.98 advanced pulldown removal with animorphic checked. First I get an error that says my capture device is not selected, even though it is selected as xl-2. When I check the capture settings, fps says not set. I’m not sure what I have to set this to. It captures the same whether it is set to 23.98, 24, or 29.97. If I click the advanced button and choose BEST from the drop down, the capture window gets bigger, but when I try to capture I get the same error. When I do have a frame rate chosen, no matter which rate I choose to capture, I get an interlaced frame every 4 frames. Could anyone help me sort this out? This is becoming very frustrating!

    THanks you very much

Try reading through the article at the link below. It contains a wealth of info on how to capture 24p and 24pA to Final Cut Pro.

If you’re still having capture problems try trashing your FCP preference files and try again.
Here’s another link on how to trash FCP prefs the right way. You won’t hurt a thing by trashing prefs and it may very well be a help if the prefs are corrupt. Doing so will at least remove all doubt as to the state of the pref files.

Just to add to my earlier post: when you read Graeme’s article about 24p just remove “DVX 100” from the text and insert “XL2”. The workpath is exactly the same for your Canon.

Thanks. The only difference with the Canon is the naming of the pulldown modes – 24pAdvanced is 2:3:3:2 and 24p is 2:3:2:3
