    Hey all,

    Getting up to speed on FCP here, and I have a quicktime that I have done vfx for at 24p. I want to output to someone but going out to NTSC 29.97i

    I have renders at 720×486 (D1 standard) and they are nice and sharp.

    I have my final cut sequence set to NTSC 720×486 standard.
    whenever i render anything out with any codec (uncompressed also) the footage change is VERY soft.

    I have tried quicktimes at 720x486x.9 (quicktime, etc reads as 648×486
    I have tried quicktimes at 720x540x1.0 (reads as 720×540 but gets resized)

    either way i get softness. even if i turn off the interlacing completely i get softness.

    does anyone have an idea why this is happening?

    any help is appreciated. i have pulled my hair out on this one a bit.

    There is no “standard.” Well, DV/NTSC is the default, and that might be your issue. Click on the timeline and press APPLE-0 (zer0). What is the compressor?

    compressor is set to None.

    Compressor is set to None? What are your sequence settings? I mean, what EASY SETUP are you using? DV? Uncompressed 8-bit? 10-bit? I don’t have a NONE in there.

    Robert,

    The point Shane has raised is a good one, which is that lots of folks just starting out with FCP don’t setup their projects using the Easy Setup, which is crucial, even for experienced users.

    The Easy Setups insure that all settings are proper and consistent for the media type you’re using and in many cases the installed hardware as well.
