I’m new to all this so please excuse my “newbieness”. I’m still photographer and I have a client that wants me to shoot a video for the web. I am shooting with a DVX100bp and editing with Final Cut Studio 2. They are requesting the Codec: DV/DVC Pro NTSC with a film rate of 29.97. I’d like to shoot 24p Advanced but do I actually need to shoot 30p to give them a Quicktime file with a frame rate of 29.97? If I shoot at 24p Advanced, will the export to Quicktime give me give me the 29.97 rate that they want automatically. This is all new to me and I’m trying to learn from ground level.

I’m also not sure if I’m setting up the Easy Setup and Audio/Video settings properly.

    My Easy Setup is:

    Format:DV/Panasonic DVCPRO
    Rate: 23.98
Sequence Preset: DV NTSC 48 kHz – 23.98
Capture Preset: DV NTSC 48 kHz Advanced (2:3:3:2) Pulldown Removal
    Device Control Preset: FireWire NTSC
Playback Output Video: Apple FireWire NTSC (720 x 480)
Playback Output Audio: Apple FireWire DV

When I go to Audio/Visual Settings – Capture Presets Editor in the QuickTime Video Settings, the FPS is set at 29.97. Is that set correctly? Is this what the client is requesting?

    Thanks for any advice.

Will there be a visual difference between a 854×480 video on the web that’s shot at 29.97 and one shot at 23.98? I was interested in the 24p “look” but can you really see the difference at that frame size?

If it’s for web and must be 29.97 yes shoot 30p. However I’d try to convince the client that by shooting and web broadcasting in 24p they get the best look the camera has and they are saving 20% in bandwidth costs.
