When playing a Final Cut Pro 23.98, DVCProHD sequence through the Kona2 card into the Panasonic PT-AE900U LCD projector, the playback has a jitter about every 1/2 second. When Playback settings are changed to 29.97 and FCP does a pulldown first, the movement looks fine. Does anyone out there have any experience with this kind of problem with 24p and LCD projectors?

The AE900 is supposedly 24p compatible, but does not identify the signal as such. When output at 23.98, projector identifies signal as 1080i/50. At 29.97, it identifies 1080i/60.

    Thanks,

    Norb

Sounds like a problem wih the projector I’d think. However if it looks OK adding the pulldown pattern back, why not just project that way?

This material is 1080i. On FCP, the sequence specs are: 1280×1080, compressor-DVCProHD 1080i60, frame rate: 23.98. This was the suggested settings from Aja’s tech support people.

I could use the 3:2 pulldown, but the 23.98 motion is much cleaner & crisp (aside from that jitter frame every 1/2 second or so).

I’m not familiar with the projector, but are you sure the specs call for 1080p23.98? You sure it isn’t 720p23.98? My sony PVM 20L5/1 HD CRT displays 1080psf24, but it displays it as 1080i48 (doubles the lines). Maybe this projector does not handle 1080p24.

try AVSforum.com in the under $3500 projector forum (in a thread specific to the 900)

They may be able to shed some light on what formats the pj can show.

I check out that forum alot. I love front projection (have a toshiba 1280×720 DLP)

and often project from my edit system (but not yet 24P material)
