    Hi,

Just when I though I was getting good at FCP…

I have this project on hands where I have to capture DV footage from a DVX 100A (same device that shot it) but I can’t find a way of removing the interlaced frames form the footage.

I’m assuming I’m missing something so here goes my assumptions:

    – I was assured the footage was recorded at 24p, not advanced.

    – When I move frame by frame on the capture window I can clearly see a 3:2 cadence (3 progressive frames and 2 interlaced)

    – I’ve tried to capture the footage with every capture setting that I could think of, from all the presets to custom one I though I should try, but the damn interlaced frames are in all of them.

    – Once again assuming I was missing something I decided to try again with the DV easy setup and then selecting the DV NTSC 48 KHz (2:3:3:2) Pulldown Removal and still got the same bloody interlaced frames…

    – This footage is going to be mixed with HVX 200 24pN footage, so I don’t think I have a choice but to find a way to remove the interlaced frames and make it 23.98.

My first question, should you not see right away what am I messing up, is how can I determine if the footage is indeed 24p or advanced and the how should I proceed?

Could you please shed some light on the subject?

    Many thanx

    T

With the DVX100 you have to shoot 24pAdvanced and capture with the pull-down removal. There’s a really great outline of how to do it on Ken Stone’s site.

Also be aware that the DVX100 footage and HVX200 footage on the same Timeline will look VERY different. I use both cameras, and have vowed to never mix the footage again.

With the DVX100, shooing regular, non-Advanced 24p is there for when you want to edit 60i but have the 24p effect. 24pAdvanced is there for you to do the pull-down removal and edit native 24p.

You can always go into Cinema Tools to conform you DVX100 24p to actualy 24p. Not sure of the details, but I do know a lot of folks use it. I know folks who like it’s results better than the FCP pull-down removal during capture.

    Tito,

You also could use Nattress Standards Converter to get ti 23.98 with that footage. But if you can reshoot with 24pa, that would be another good option.
