24p DVD
is the only advantage to making a 24dvd the storage capacity? Since it is all going to end up at 29.97 when viewing on ntsc dvd player? Is that conversion done by the dvd player’s hardware? Can all dvd players play 24p dvds?
these are the questions that hurt my brain.

With a DVD, data rate = quality. With 24p, you can compress your media less, and hence get longer playing time, or higher quality or both, depending on programme length.
The player itself will add 3:2 pulldown on output. All players do this.

You mean on the output to the television, right? Also, what if you play that dvd on a computer…does it play true 24p? Also, if your programme is short and you can use a high bit rate even at 29.97 and still fit it all on a DVD, is it then not really worth the headache of working in 24p? -
Yes, on output to television. Output on a computer should be 24p without pulldown frames.
If you’re using a short programme, 24p will give you better quality as when you max out the bitrate, you’re pushing less frames per second through it, and also, the MPEG2 codec works better on progressive images than interlaced.

Thanks again…sorry to keep bogging you down with questions, but I posted yesterday “Yet another 24p question”…which is actually several questions (one of which you have now answered)…if you have the time I would really appreciate some answers to those other questions.
