24P DVD Burning in DVDA

Pete, I don’t do 24p but I know that DVDA automatically handles it if that’s what you give it.
Sony has two free PDFs on their site that go into more detail about how to do the encoding from Vegas so that things will work properly for you.
Once is called 24p HDCAM/DVCAM and the other is 24p and Panasonic AG-DVX100 and AJ-SDX900.

Not to worry… this setting is only for the DVD menus. You can add 24p video to the project and it will work.

There are only two broadcast standards (if you don’t count SECAM in France), NTSC and PAL. NTSC is 29.97fps and PAL is 25.0fps. There is no support for 24p. Movies that are shot in 24p have telecine added to bring them up to 29.97. This is why you won’t see 24p as a DVD Architect project. The DVD Architect project properties are for the menus. Your menus can be 29.97 (NTSC) or 25.0 (PAL). You should set your project to 29.97 if you are delivering in an NTSC country. As I said, you can still add 24p footage to your project; this is just for the menus.

These are the options and and what they are for:

23.976 (IVTC Film): IVTC is Inverse Telecine. Telecine is the process of adding frames to 24p to bring it up to 29.97 that is required for NTSC broadcast. This is sometimes referred to as “adding pull-down”. Inverse Telecine removes these extra frames to bring the frame rate back to 23.976. This is sometimes referred to as “removing pull-down”. This is what you should be using for your 24p footage.

24.000 (Film): This is for transferring film to video and printing back out to film. If you are not using “real” film in your workflow, you should not be using this setting.

If you want to edit in HD you should use the HD 1080-24p (1920×1080, 23.976 fps) project template. If you want to edit in SD Widescreen, you should use the NTSC DV 24p Widescreen (720×480, 23.976 fps) project template. These templates are set up properly for a 24p workflow and there is nothing special that you need to do.
