24p Digibeta
Posted by Alexander Lee on January 22, 2009 at 9:03 amDoes Digibeta ever run at 24p? I have a film shot with the DVX-100 and wanted to make a master tape. Was wondering if uprezzing to HDcam would be my only option to maintain same framerate.
Thanks,

January 22, 2009 at 9:48 amI answered you on the Apple forums. But, so others here know my suggestion….
Nope…digibeta is 29.97 only.
No SD tape runs at 23.98…24p. Even your DVX…it records 29.97. The 24p is embedded in that and the redundant frames removed when you capture.
You want to maintain the FRAME RATE? There is no need really, unless you plan on making a film print. Since your footage is DV it is SD, and the best format you can master to for SD is digibeta. Outputting to HDCAM means uprezzing via a Kona 3 or Terranex (terranex is better), and that means blowing up the footage and taking a quality hit…and more $$.
Best to master to Digibeta…IMHO. But wait for others input.

January 22, 2009 at 11:51 amI agree with Shane.
Digibeta is SD PAL or NTSC and 23’97 is just not NTSC.
NTSC is always 29’98.
Here in PAL-land we are very happy with no having to deal with the “Pull-down” issue.
But I think that the video-maker that have no much clear this matter in NTSC-land is in troubles.
About the quality, off course is the best available in SD. Don’t go to HD just to keep the time-base. Better keep the quality.

January 22, 2009 at 8:27 pmIt doesn’t matter if you put your film on Digibeta. Pulldown can be added and removed seamlessly.
