I have a project shot at 24p, mini DV (SD). I have a canon XL1 and a couple of DVCAM decks. Can I properly CAPTURE this footage, or do I need a deck/camera that supports 24p? Or do all support 24p? Thanks…

February 27, 2007 at 7:14 amThe answer is simple, some decks are smart enough to recognize 24p some are not. If you state which decks you’ve got I can assure you that someone here will know be familiar enough with the ones you have to tell you which will work.

February 27, 2007 at 1:26 pmAs far as I am aware, just about any DV deck will do, as all miniDV tape runs at 29.97, even DV cam which goes at a faster tape speed. It’s FCP that will “make” 23.98 out of it, if it was shot 24pA and if you use advanced puldown removal when you capture. I do know this, my JVC BRDV 6000, Sony DSR 11 and Panasonic DVX 100 all allow 24p capture through FireWire.
If you have 24P footage, you can convert it to true 23.98 with Nattress Standards Converters or Cinema tools. The former are absolutely great, easy and not expensive.

February 27, 2007 at 4:03 pmOK! Didn’t think it would make a difference.
I have: sony DSR-20, 25, 30 decks; canon XL-1 and Gl-1, sony DSR-250 camcorders.
Thanks!

February 27, 2007 at 4:13 pmWhat version of FCP are you using? Did you shoot 24p advanced? Is there a capture preset for 24p with advanced pulldown removal?
All the best,
Tom

February 27, 2007 at 9:23 pmI do not have a 24p advanced pulldown capture option.
I don’t know if it was shot 24p advanced or not… they shot it on a panasonic vx-100… does that impact how I should capture it?
I currently have it on a 24p sequence… but I didn’t capture at 24p (though I can easily recapture).
Should I recapture and change the frame rate to 24fps and change to progressive?
