DId they remove the pulldown from the HD material? If so, how?
If not, how do they have 23.98 sd movies if the footage is 1080i@ 29.97 (24p with pulldown)?

Then we’re at a standstill. If they didn’t remove the pulldown properly or somehow forced a 23.98 sd movie, that’s were the stuttering will come in.

How do you remove the pull down? Isn’t 24p actually 29.97 in the HDX 900?

it will only be an issue if it goes to tape or to ntsc at 60i or 30 fps.The stepping occurs when the 24 frames goes back to 30. This is done because all broadcast plays back at 30 fps.(29.97 really) The duplicated frames (reverse pulldown)stops the fluid motion when added back in. When the jib moves horizontally across the screen the stuttering look happens. If you can stay 24fps all the way thru mastering. it wont be an issue. This means you cant broadcast it because they dont play tapes at 24f. You can master to progressive dvd or use the 24f file played thru a projector or on digital monitor as with a 24f quicktime playing on a computer screen with no stuttering,
24F for video was really designed as a film look or used when you transfer your video to film for theatrical release. It doesnt work well for lots of motion.

This is the first time I’ve noticed such a huge problem. I’ve shot lot’s of jib and dolly moves and 24p and never seen this. Could it be monitoring alone? I’ve sent it to a couple of other editors and they don’t see what the client sees or i see. Is it a screen resolution issue as well. I’d like to attach the file, but I don’t thing I can on this forum.

Again. You need to find out what they did to get from 1080i 29.97 (24p with pulldown) to dv 23.98. If that process is at all done improperly, your footage won’t be correct.
You can’t attach images to the cow directly. You have to post them on your own website or use a service such as yousendit.com.

Finally got an answer 3 days later. The footage was digitized a 8 bit non compressed standard def 29.97. I’ve sent it to several other editors and some thing it’s dropping a frame or 2
