24fps to 30fps in FCP
Hey,
I’m trying to figure out how to convert something in FCP 5 from 24fps to 30fps without having the motion on the screen messed up by the extra frames that are being added. does anybody have any suggestions or tips on how to do this?

What sort of footage are we talking about here? How was it shot/captured? And why are you converting? What will you be outputting to?

it’s 3d animation that is going to be used to combine with a highlight reel that is being put together. it was exported animation in quicktime and sent to me.

So it is true 24fps then? or 23.98?
And HOW will this reel be presented? On tape? played back on a computer? DVD?
Not that I know HOW to do this, as I have only output 23.98 footage captured with a camera to 29.97 tapes with the use of an HD capture card that adds the proper pulldown upon output. I haven’t dealt with true 24fps. But, if it is being laid to tape, the card will add the pulldown. But…hmmm…you need to incorporate it into a series of footage that is ALREADY 30fps.
Try Compressor and the Advanced Conversion options. Choose a codec that matches the other 30fps footage, and make sure that all of your settings are set to BEST. This will take a WHILE to do, but the result should be better.

Hi Shane,
I’m using 23.98. I got it onto a DVD by creating two seperate sequences in FCP one for the 23.98 and the other at 29.97. I then exported both and compressed both: one at the format of 23.98 and the other at 29.97. I brought it into DVD studio pro and then laid out the 29.97 and the 23.98 on the same track and it worked well.
The DVD is fine but what’s the best way to make a quicktime reel out of it.

Open the 23.98 file in Cinema Tools and add pulldown to it.
