24fps to 30fps Conversion??
Hi gang….
Hopefully someone here will tell me that I can do this (and how!), or either just tell me that it can’t be done….
I have standard definition video shot 24F with Canon XLH1.
I can capture video beautifully, and can edit it beautifully either in a 23.976fps or a 29.97fps project.
We usually work exclusively in 29.97 projects, and the video looks great, just like telecined film (stepping through the frames we get 3 non-interlaced frames, and the 2 interlaced, just like telecine with a 3:2 pulldown).
What I would LIKE to do is this: I would like to be able to edit a part of it in a 23.976 project, and then make an AVI that I can use in a 29.97 project (this is because I want to do some rotoscoping via filmstrips on a fair bit of it, I want to draw fewer frames, and I don’t want to have to draw on some of the interlaced frames if I exported the filmstrip in a 29.97 project).
I have been able to do this, but it doesn’t look good. Basically I can’t come up with any combination of settings that gives my AVI the right “look” when it is brought back into a 29.97 proejct (the 3:2 pulldown look of 3 non-interlaced frames followed by 2 interlaced frames is not preserved). Within my 23.976 project I have tried making AVIs at both 23.976 and 29.97, with every combination of No Fields (Progressive), Upper Fields First, Lower Fields First, and Deinterlaced footage… but still haven’t gotten right right result.
Is there any way to do this? Or am I just asking too much of Premiere Pro2?
Thanks much, gang….
Todd
