Which is the best solution for adding the look of film for an Avid. I am mostly referring to the motion “jitter” that film gives you, not just the colors. I have some footage that I have from BetaSP and DVCPRO.

I use the Media Composer v.12.0.1
I have Boris and also have After Effects. Some folks have suggested Magic Bullet.

Is there a plug in directly for Avid.

    Please let me know.

Check to see if you have a preset in the FluidFilm family of effects called FluidFilm. That will recreated media from 60 field material to be as though it were shot 24fps with the added 2:3 pulldown.

Boris Continuum Complete has a pretty good film plug-in. It is usually used for a more film damage look, but you can control the parameters to give you a less extreme look. It also has separate controls for dirt, scratches, etc.

if you have boris continuum complate AVX in your AVID then use the “De-Interlace” plugin and switch the dropdown menu to “simulate pulldown” this will effectively drop your clip to 24fps and re-insert 6 fps to give you that “telecined” look. i have used it very often and it looks fantastic. after that add a color correction of your choice to simulate the filmstock or look you desire.

    good luck,

    Hi guys,

I am probably the exception here, in that i am working on PAL. therefore the de-interlace preset to jump down from 29.75 to 24 fps isn’t too much help. I have Adrenaline 2.1 digitising at 1.1 10b mxf. I want to give the video filmed on 25i a nice rich tone and feel that you can only get with film, i know colourising it is a major part but what is the best plug in to use to affect the way it looks, and are there presets that achieve this, please note i am looking for a subtle effect.

    Thanks i advance

For PAL, you can always render in a progressive look whch is differnt that interlace for motion. The rest can be done with color correction and some filters.

    See an example here:
