    Hi All…

I am in the planning stages of a project on a short documentary.

Portions of it or all of it may be shot SD.

    I’d like to push a Film look…

Will shooting 24 frame help in this regard….perhaps widescreen?

    What’s a good recipe here?

    Thanks,

    Alex

In my experience, 24p itself doesn’t do much for you, except creating headaches when trying to mix in other footage that isn’t 24P.

You should certainly shoot widescreen however.

24P also doesn’t do well with high motion, so hand held and fast moving shots will look more jagged.

Using a lens adapter, or pushing for long lens shots and open iris to reduce the depth of field is the biggest thing you can do to try to recreate a film look in documentary style. And of course, if you can bring in good lighting, you’re golden.

This is from my own experience, if you like the look of it, go for it.

Well 24fps will help a little, but to really get a film look there is so much more than the frame rate.

Go watch this tutorial found here at the Cow, it’s really meant for using After Effects but many of the color corrections can be done in PPro. If you have or can aquire After Effects it will serve you well.

Film look is really alot to do with color and softening edges and much much more as you will see in the tut.

    Hope this helps.
