    [Jon Griggs] “It IS adding pulldown, the problem is that I can’t get it to be frame specific – i.e. I can’t get the layback to land at 01:00:00:00 (after bars/tone and the slate). “

    Jon

    It is my understanding that the FS1 doesn’t add pulldown to 1080 23.98 feeds.

    Are you sure it is not 23.98 NDF to 59.94 DF timebase issue?

    Hi Gary,

    From the AJA website:

    Anything in…

    * 525i / 720p / 1080i / 59.94Hz
    * 1080 psf 23.98Hz
    * 625i / 720p / 1080i / 50Hz
    * 1080 psf 24Hz
    * 1080i / 720p / 60Hz
    * 8-channel AES Audio
    * 8-channel Embedded Audio
    * 8-channel Balanced Analog Audio control

    …Anything out

    * 525i / 720p / 1080i / 59.94Hz
    * 1080 psf 23.98Hz
    * 625i / 720p / 1080i / 50Hz
    * 1080 psf 24Hz
    * 1080i / 720p / 60Hz
    * 8-channel AES Audio
    * 8-channel Embedded Audio
    * 8-channel Balanced Analog Audio

    If it’s not doing pulldown, how is it doing the conversions…?

    [Jon Griggs] “If it’s not doing pulldown, how is it doing the conversions…? “

    Jon
    Let me try this again, it is my understanding with the FS1 that you output Either 23.98 or 59.54i (with 3:2 pulldown), if you are trying to output both timebases simultaneously you cannot.

    Lets go back to the timing issue – are you compensating for the 1 frame delay in the conversion and the difference between NDF and DF timecode
    Could this be the reason for you not being able to hit consistently at 1:00:00:00?

    from pg 12 of the FS1 manual

    1080pSF/23.98 Output Format is compatible only with 1080pSF/23.98
    input. If the Output Format is set to 1080pSF23.98, then the only valid
    input format is 1080pSF/23.98.

    (1080pSF/23.98 input format is compatible with both 1080pSF/23.98 and 1080i/59.94 output.)

    when all else fails call tech support

    Sorry for any confusion

    Hi Gary,

    Just outputting 59.94 from the AJA – it’s the input that’s at 23.98.
    Yes, we are using the 1 frame offset.

    We’ve ended up doing a workflow with the BM Multibridge instead, and we’ve cut the AJA out of the loop.

    Many thanks for everyone’s help 🙂

    Hi Shane. Do you know if it’s possible to use a KONA 3 to take a 1080psf23.98 input signal and use the card to convert it so Final Cut Pro could capture at 1080i59.94?

    Thanks,
    -Dan
