23.98 sync problems w/ Kona2
We shot 2 indie movies with the CineAlta at 23.98 and have subsequently been trying to capture our clips as DVCProHD into our FCP5 system (G5 dual 2.5 Tiger 10.4.1, ADTX RAID, Kona2 with 1.1.2 driver).
We had two capture sessions, each using a different Sony JH3 unit, and we had intermittent and unpredictable sync problems with almost all the clips. We tried individual capture and batch capture. We even reloaded the same clip- sometimes it would be out of sync, sometimes not. It seems that 4 frames off is the usual error.
We could fix it all in the timeline, but then our final EDL would be a nightmare during HD conform as some clips are off by 1, some by 4, some not at all. Kona says they have not heard of this issue with 23.98 since their 1.1.2 driver fix. Unfortunately, we cannot afford an HD deck in the house and must rent one for capture sessions, or even for testing. Is anyone having similar problems with 23.98 HDCAM to DVCProHD via the Kona2? -

Do a search in the KONA2 forum and you will see a couple of threads on it.

Thanks… I will post in the Kona forum. FYI, Kona support says they are testing with a JH3 and will get back to me shortly.
